In a recent email to a customer that was curious on how SoundPimp actually works, we wrote: “HDS is based on an advanced cross talk cancellation algorithms. This is basically NOT a manipulative technology. It is error corrective because cross talk is a fundamental listening error over stereo speakers. Generally speaking, up to 40% of what you hear can be counterproductive sound information, when measured against the actual content of the original recording. The short explanation is that left ear is not supposed to hear right speaker, and vice versa.
Cross talk has several negative effects, one of them being in fact centre channel cancellation. This is therefore one major reason to have the centre channel in 5.1 home theater systems, as normal stereo literally cancels out to some extent.”
